A new cat-allergy vaccine

On October 9, 2023, the French-Canadian company Angany announced the launch of a clinical trial to develop a therapeutic vaccine for patients suffering from cat allergy. Could it be the end of this life-long condition?

Human allergies are on the increase, and between 10 to 20 % of the world’s population is affected by cat allergies. Cats can 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝟏𝟎 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐬, the most important being 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐥 𝐝𝟏, found in their saliva, tears, and perinatal and sebaceous glands. To date, there is 𝐧𝐨 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 other than over-the-counter or prescription medications that 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬. 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, which involves administering the cat allergen for years, is another method to treat cat allergies, but its 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐰.

𝐀𝐍𝐆-𝟏𝟎𝟏 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞 that provides a disruptive disease-modifying approach. It is derived from the company’s patented technology. The vaccine’s active ingredient is a unique 140 nm enveloped 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐬, whose surface is coated with 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐥 𝐝𝟏 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧. NG-101 has demonstrated its efficacy in animals by triggering the production of antibodies capable of blocking allergic reactions. It is also the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 in humans and their pets.

“HOPE” is the name of the clinical trial being conducted in London at the Royal Brompton Hospital and we hope that it 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 leading to the vaccine's market launch soon.
