A new tampon for urinary incontinence

More people than you might think suffer from incontinence, as many as 25 to 45% of women, in fact. Yet there is now a potential solution thanks to a new product out of the States. Revive™ is a bladder device that functions like a tampon.

There are many things that can cause urinary incontinence, and it can affect women of all ages, such as during pregnancy or after a difficult birth.

The Revive™ is a device inserted in the vagina using an applicator, a lot like a tampon. It strengthens the urethra and perineal muscles to temporarily reduce fluids leaking out due to effort-induced incontinence. The device is effective for a maximum of 12 hours according to its manufacturers, and is then removed by a thin string. Unlike tampons, however, it can be reused for 31 days.

Before going on the market, Revive™ was tested on volunteers. In total, 9 out of 10 participants judged the device to be effective from the first use. The number of times participants experienced leakage dropped to less than once a day in 71% of cases, and 79% of the women surveyed said they felt no discomfort when using the device.
