The publication by Geoffrey de Beco et al. has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Pediatric Cardiology. Its abstract is avalable on PubMed.
Entiteled “Recent Experience and Follow-Up After Surgical Closure of Secundum Atrial Septal Defect in 120 Children”, the report was primarly focused on surgical closure of secundum atrial septal defect (ASD2), involving 120 children and conducted between January 1991 and May 2012. Direct sutures were performed in 4% and patch closures in 96%. In line with published data, mortality was low and estimated at 0.8%. However, major complications proved to be more common in these cases (6.7%) than in those who underwent percutaneous ASD2 closure, with minor complications commonly observed, yet without long-term sequelae.
