CBD – a legal form of medical cannabis?

Over the past few months, many new shops have been appearing in major French cities offering a particular type of product.

At first glance, they look just like your typical Amsterdam coffee shop, selling cannabis pollen, oils
and other by-products. Yet there is one big difference – these products actually don’t contain any Δ-
9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) at all – only cannabidiol (CBD).

What we should probably make clear is that cannabidiol, not THC, is the real source of the majority
of medicinal virtues associated with cannabis. In medicine, it’s primarily used to treat fitting, nausea
and anxiety.

CBD causes a slight sedative effect but is not psychotropic. Recent studies have even demonstrated
that it also has an inhibitory effect on cancer cell growth, as well as helping with dystonia.
