Drops to cure near-sightedness
In Europe, around one in three of us are myopic, i.e., short-sighted. Do you yourself find it frustratingly difficult to recognise your friends in the street without your glasses? If so, this innovative idea is likely to catch your eye...
So how do they work? The drops settle into minuscule holes in the cornea previously created by laser, altering how light enters your eye. Trials have already been conducted in animals, and the results are highly promising.
The treatment effects last for a week, and initially require the expertise of a specialist, though the inventors believe it could be possible to perform the next treatments yourself at home, similar to diabetics performing their own injections. The first trials in humans are planned for 2021, so watch this space!
