Gluten-free diets – not as healthy as you’d think
Foods, drink, cosmetics… There are “gluten-free" options everywhere now. Yet this growing market is not without controversy. While some are have real allergies or intolerance, recent studies have shown that choosing to deprive your body of gluten is not necessarily good for the health.
Gluten-free products were first created for people with gluten intolerance, yet are now also popular among others who find they help digestion. A French consumer association has recently warned that these voluntary diets can carry risks, though.
Depriving your body of gluten even though you have no intolerance can cause deficiencies. Gluten-free food also tends to be higher in calories due to the additives they contain, and can even go so far as to cause digestion problems itself. So what’s the answer? Well basically, if you have no problem with gluten, keep eating it!
