𝐎𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 (OA) is a prevalent, age-related worldwide disease and the 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧 disability, and deterioration of quality of life. This study evaluated the image quality and dose of 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐞-𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲 (CBCT-A) and compare them to 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲 (DR) for 𝐎𝐀 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬.

Dr. Boudabbous and her team analyzed 32 cases of patients who underwent CBCT-A or DR for OA diagnosis. 𝐂𝐁𝐂𝐓-𝐀 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 and inter-observer agreement, while 𝐃𝐑 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐎𝐀 in mean joint width, osteophyte detection, and Kellgren and Lawrence classification.

The findings assessed through a three-point rating scale for qualitative image analysis, 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐁𝐂𝐓-𝐀'𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐀 compared to DR. Additionally, 𝐂𝐁𝐂𝐓-𝐀 𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 of extremities in OA diagnosis, 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 such as upright positioning and bone microarchitecture analysis.
