Congratulations to Dr. Boudabbous and colleagues on the publication of their article on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided lumbar or sacral nerve root infiltration in the journal Neuroradiology. We are delighted to have contributed to the success of this article!

According to the World Health Organization, back pain affects around 𝟔𝟏𝟗 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞. It is the leading 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 and can occur at any age. The causes are multifactorial, the 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞, and their selection is based on etiology and symptoms. Treatments for radicular pain, caused by nerve inflammation, include 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐬.

This study assessed the 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 of these 𝐌𝐑𝐈-𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 in the context of chronic back pain. The authors compared the results obtained with MRI-guided infiltration with 𝐂𝐓-𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 data from the literature. With MRI-guided infiltration, 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝟗𝟐% 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 and remained reduced 5 months after injection in half of the cases. There were 𝐧𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 associated with these injections.

In conclusion, MRI-guided injections are 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 in the treatment of chronic back pain, with 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐓-𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. The article is already available on the journal's website! 𝐃𝐎𝐈: 𝟏𝟎.𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟕/𝐬𝟎𝟎𝟐𝟑𝟒-𝟎𝟐𝟑-𝟎𝟑𝟐𝟑𝟒-𝟔
