Osteoporosis: a human and social scourge

Osteoporosis is correlated with a predisposition for bone fractures, and especially vertebral compression fractures and fractures of the wrist. In medical terms, primary osteoporosis is said to occur in post-menopausal women, due to a lack of estrogen, and among the elderly. Secondary osteoporosis, on the other hand, can be traced back to other causes, such as corticosteroid treatment or impairment of the parathyroid glands.
