Skyping with my doctor

05/03/2019

Since the end of January this year, people have been able to consult a doctor via videoconferencing.

All you need is an internet connection and webcam and you’re set. The doctor carries out the medical consultation practically as usual, though with a few small differences. The doctor may ask you to come closer to the webcam so that he can more closely look at something, and after the consultation he can send you any prescriptions by email.

This new method is especially valued by patients with limited mobility and those who live in so-called "medical deserts" meaning they have huge distances to travel to their nearest doctor’s.

This is the beginning of teleconsultation, and it is definitely going to spread far and wide. Still, be aware that you cannot get an online appointment with a doctor you have never seen before – teleconsultation must always be used as a part of your already-established healthcare program.
