Talcum powder: bad for the health?
12/02/2019
Talc-based products such as baby, body and foot powders could soon disappear from Canadian shops
altogether, since a recommendation published on December 5, 2018, claimed that talc has a
potentially harmful effect on the lungs.
Inhaling the fine particles of this loose powder carries the risk of causing breathing problems, such as
coughing, reduced lung function or even fibrosis. When used in the genital area, too, it could
increase the risk of ovarian cancer in women.
It is thus a good idea to stop using talc until further notice, especially for babies, and to instead stick
to creams and balms.
