Juggling medicine and publishing

The number of clients we have entrusting us with their publishing works is constantly growing. Why not join them?

Here at Cremer Consulting, we know how challenging a doctor’s daily grind is. How? Well because some of us are doctors too! So you don’t need to tell us how huge the workload is.

Conducting research and helping science progress is important, of course. But sharing your work with the rest of the world is even better. We’re here to help you accomplish this often complicated goal.

Need help formulating your findings into stylish and professional writing? Need a proofread? What about adapting or submitting your work? Or perhaps you need it translated? Contact us, let us know what you need, and we’ll be more than happy to give you a thoughtful, exact response.

Fake news

Fake news

It’s a growing phenomenon as old as the Internet itself and spread worldwide by social media: fake news. And when it enters the realm of medicine, there’s no telling where it will end!

It’s on everyone’s lips. Fake news is everywhere, and one of the more negative aspects of social media is, it lets fake news be shared and multiply incredibly fast, no matter what the news is. Far from affecting only politics, the world of medicine has also fallen victim to fake news.

We’ve picked a few examples for you still doing the rounds concerning the fields of health and science:

  • “Autism is caused by the MMR vaccine” (1998)

  • “The majority of scientific studies are falsified”

  • “Propolis extract is more effective against colon cancer than conventional chemotherapy”

  • “The flu vaccine can cause a flu epidemic”

  • “Dandelions boost your immune system and can cure cancer”

There are as many lies about health as any other field – fake news is everywhere and it spreads quickly. Don’t get sucked in!

November is also a busy time for health news, with nearly each week raising awareness about a different issue. Let’s take a look at this month’s top global health days.

All year long, the World Health Organisation (WHO) promotes different health issues on special days, as do many different other organisations, both on a national and international scale. Haemophilia, disability, osteoporosis…there are as many events as there are health issues!

Tomorrow, November 7 2018, is the European Williams-Beuren Sydrome Day. First created in 2010, this event serves to raise awareness about this rare disease affecting one in 7500 newborns and with 300,000 sufferers worldwide.

Here are some of the other health days you can look out for this month:

  • 10 November – World NET (neuroendocrine tumour) Cancer Day

  • 12 November – World Pneumonia Day

  • 14 November – World Diabetes Day

  • 20 November – World COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) Day

The 2018 Nobel Prize for Medicine

The 2018 Nobel Prize for Medicine

The Nobel prize for medicine of 2018 has just been awarded to two professors renowned for their work in cancer treatment.

The votes are in. The Nobel prize for medicine of the year 2018 is going to Professor Tasuku Honjo of Japan and Professor James Allison of the United States of America for their “discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation.

Millions die from cancer every year, so rewarding advances in cancer treatment is thus a much-needed and powerful encouragement. This year, it’s brand new treatments in the limelight, particularly immunotherapy.

These two professors’ discoveries, notably their description of two proteins that slow down the immune response, have enabled an entirely new approach to open up in fighting these diseases: stimulating the patients’ immune system to destroy cancer cells. Our congratulations go to the professors for their well-earned award!
